Dominante (founded in 1975) is a student choir that has its home base in Otaniemi, in the city of Espoo, within the boundaries of the Helsinki University of Technology campus.
Dominante has a remarkably versatile repertoire. It ranges from traditional to ultramodern choral music and includes also ballet music, musicals, and children’s music.
Recently Dominante has worked among others with the Finnish National Opera, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonia, Tapiola Sinfonietta, and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. In August 2007 Dominante gave a concert at the BBC Proms festival in London. Dominante performed in the Royal Albert Hall together with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vänskä.
Over the years, Dominante has appeared on more than twenty recordings. For its latest released a cappella recording, Lempeä, Dominante was given the record of the year award by the Finnish Choral Conductor’s Association in 2009. Currently Dominante is engaged in recording the complete works of Jean Sibelius for the BIS record label.
The Hong Kong Bach Chamber Choir, an offshoot from its sister group the Hong Kong Bach Choir, will also be performing three choral works by Schütz, Victoria and Palestrina.
